Both of these teeth (at arrows) have a lot of recession and bone loss. This was caused by brushing of the gums with a hard tooth brush. The problem was very noticeable for this patient when she smiled. She not only had exposed roots, but also a frustrating esthetic problem.

Recession can occur on one tooth or all teeth as shown in the photo on the right. This recession is severe. Today, periodontal procedures can easily correct this problem.
